Kingulliit Productions, Igloolik, Nunavut
We were happy to bring our art and recycling workshop to the Uvanga: Portrait of Children activities, lead by Virginie Cousineau, Annie Desilets, Mary Kunuk, and Curtis Taqqaugaq. Youth remixed napu, the slats from qamutiks (sleds), that were scavenged from the dump. They learned our favourite roller technique, made stencils, and used pastels. We installed the napu on the famous Kingulliit Productions building, the film company responsible for the acclaimed film Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner.
Meanwhile, with the assistance of youth, we painted the remainder of the Kingulliit Productions building to honour Pauloosie Qulitalik: respected elder, cofounder of Isuma, and the first unilingual Inuk filmmaker.
